Purpose: This assignment is to explore the representation of power in the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean region. The ancient civilizations of this region were noted for their great battles and powerful rulers. This assignment will explore how power is represented in art through statues, mosaics, sculptures, and architecture. Learning outcomes: • compare and contrast how power is represented visually in ancient art and architecture • compare and contrast how symbols are used in ancient art and architecture Criteria for Success: Two artworks, labeled and clearly visible with 5 bulleted items in columns under each picture explaining how the idea of power is represented in the examples you provide. Task/ Directions: • Post two artworks from two different cultures from the textbook, from this chapter. • You will create two columns and a bullet list under each picture explaining how the idea of power is reflected in your two examples. • Be sure to include the name of the works. • Talk about how the body is represented (if it’s pictured in your work), specific events, or even religious practices as a way to display power. • Upload a file or picture of your assignment which will include two columns with lists of at least 5 sentences or bullet ideas on each side AND two pictures).
