[SOLVED] Corrections Cost Discussion
David Crary (2008) noted that in the United States, the fifty states spent more than $49 billion on corrections. The rate of increase in prison costs was six times greater than for higher education spending. Another striking statistic provided in the first chapter is that one in 30 men between the ages of 20 and 34 are behind bars, which makes the United States the worlds incarceration leader. For black males in the same age group the figure is one in nine. This week you are investigating corrections origins and history to recognize where we have been, to think in terms of where we are going in the corrections profession. We will be studying correctional concepts from evidence-based theory and best-practices to a reality of changing paradigms. Instructions in Bold (answer each question) Based upon your review of your readings, and investigation, what do you believe that works the best for punishment for all types of offenders from the lowest to the highest risk? Does jail or prison always need to be part of punishment? What are the foretasted issues and trends? Is there a danger to the community by not incarcerating all law violators? Your assignment for this module is to academically discuss the pros and cons of each of these questions. Provide a logical comprehensive analysis of the reasons why you chose this position over all the others. Your response should go beyond the obvious, include additional research, and be written at a graduate level. Your answer must be no less than 1000 words with three resources.
